• Had some decisions to make, as we wanted to add to our family, and could no longer live in our 2 bedroom 1 bath house. We could either move or build up. We chose to build up to a 4 bedroom 3 bath, and are ecstatic with the results. Although my wife's concern was having all the bedrooms on one floor, mine was that the remodel keep the same historic architectural detail that attracted me to East Sacramento to begin with. Cue in Mills Builders which is run like a finely tuned pitching machine. You have the starter, Jonathan Mills, who's work I had seen around the neighborhood back in the height of the construction boom, kept the right people even though he had to scale back in the current economy, and was able to bring our vision to fruition with the help of designer John Packowski. That, and he owned a home in East Sac and only moved to Clarksburg because of his growing family sold us on the deal. After the initial stages, the middle reliever is Danny DePiazza, who is the project manager. He was always timely to our requests and kept a firm deadline. Finally, the closer comes in. Seth was able to handle all of our punch-list needs. I figure if you are going to spend 5-6 months day-in, day-out making decisions that you are going to have to live with for the rest of your life, there are few people who can say such positive things about such a big project. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing. Go with Mills Builders; you'll be happy you did.

  • Mill Builders did a phenomenal job remodeling our house. We added 1400 sq feet on to our 1100 sq foot East Sacramento bungalow: a great room, an office, a laundry room and two upstairs bedrooms and a bathroom. The work was exquisite, and Jonathan worked with the architect and us to identify opportunities to fully use the designed space. He knew exactly how to blend the existing house and addition seamlessly. People always comment on the quality of the craftsmanship and that the addition looks as if it was part of the original structure. Jonathan and his crew were professional, on-time, and communicated clearly. Jonathan was on-site almost every day, and truly delivered exactly what we were looking for.

  • Mills completed a full kitchen and bathroom remodel for us and we love the outcome. Our project manager, Danny, was wonderful. Aside from design and project management, I believe they sub out all of the labor. They managed all of it just fine. We had access to the subcontractors to provide input as needed, but Danny handled all the coordination/scheduling/etc. Jonathan and Carol - the owners - are fair and fun to work with!

  • If you live in an old home - a Victorian, Craftsman Bungalow or Mission home - in Sacramento, this is the company for you. I know of only one other builder/contractor in town with the kind of attention to detail and knowledge/understanding of old house issues (and historical style/aesthetic) as Danny and Jonathan at Mills. These guys are the real deal. Fair prices, they are speedy and they really, really know their stuff. Don't trust your historic home to anyone who doesn't understand the particular foibles of your kind of house.

  • We hired Jonathan and Mills Builders to complete a remodel / renovation of our triplex rental in Boulevard Park / Midtown Sacramento. The house was built circa 1900 and had not been properly maintained nor remodeled and was in desperate need of TLC -- it was a tricky project but Mills' team worked seamlessly with us to problem solve through the expected twists and turns. They did a great job! The finished product is high-quality, and we liked Mills so much that we're using them again to build our new home.
